This is not a joke. I went to buy a new car seat today. We're going on a weekend trip. Of all the stores we went to a total of 2 car seats were rear facing. All the other seats were forward facing. If you sit in a forward facing seat it's 5 times likelier that you die or get seriously injured in a car crash.

If you compare Sweden with other countries a similar number of infants die in car accidents. But because Swedish babies continue to sit rear facing when their infant car seats are too small for them (and they get a new rear facing seat) the number of deaths is 50% less in Sweden among 1 year olds.

Just so you get the feeling of what it's like being a 1 year old. If you are 80kg your head would weigh 20kg as a 1 year old. I hope you've been to the gym? Imagine holding your head straight if it was 20kg. As a 3 year old your head would still weigh 16 kg. Like having 8 big 2 litre bottles of Coke for a head. It's like my dad always says when mum is around. In Sweden they always know best.

Maybe it wasn't fair to be so ironic about the Icelandic summer the other day. We've had really nice weather the last few days. I have been sleeping in the garden wearing almost nothing. For example I now have my summer fleece mittens on. The sun is still shining just before 10pm when I go to sleep.

Today I got to see mum's job.

The new raincoat I wear when we have dinner is brilliant. The grown-ups around the table do not wear raincoats. They always loose. It's like a game of paintball where they forgot to wear the protective gear.

Today is a national holiday: The first day of summer. In Iceland 9°C means summer is here to stay. I guess they didn't have the patience to wait with the celebrations until the first strawberries and potatoes might be ready sometime in August. Mum went to work today. She got dad to babysit me. Seems they think I can't handle things on my own here at home while they are away.

I hate all the child proof stuff that makes babies lives so hard!

...I just haven't been feeling so well. I got a cold last week and then I'm getting my first tooth. I'm not too keen on this whole teething procedure. I wish I could just get fake teeth. I'm checking out the teeth of everyone I meet at the moment to find out what type to get. Sometimes I also stick my hand down the throat to see where all that exciting grown-up food stuff is going.
I hope you guys are well and have all the teeth you need already! I will try to update my blog tomorrow after I go swimming.

What's with the theme days at dad's work? Last Friday it was the punk hairdo and today he went
to work wearing a blue dress with silver details.
I thought computer nerds were supposed to dress
more like this at work:
Anyway, I managed to throw up on dad's new dress so now he has to wash it before he can wear it again.
It is much easier to crossdress as a baby. I'm quiet
experienced myself. I was young and innocent. I
managed to fool all the nurses that I was an adorable
little girl when the fact was they only ran out of baby
blue outfits at the hospital.

Mum bought me a raincoat to wear when I'm eating. I wonder why? I think it might be something typically Icelandic since the weather change so suddenly. You never know what might blow through your kitchen window while you are off guard eating. I'm hoping for a Christmas tree. It happens all the time in Iceland. Mum and Dad would prefer the hot tub. Unfortunately it ended up at someone Else's house.

Today I have been hanging out in my great grandma's kitchen sink. You get to watch the cars thorough the window and eat biscuits, sweet.

April 15, 2008

My bed is so long I get agoraphobic. It's feels much better to sleep in it the other way.

Today mum tried to tie me down to a baby seat at the supermarket. I filed a complaint demanding to be allowed to sit upright in the seat of the shopping cart like all the other children in the store. I usually get what I want if I just make some noise.
By the way, I just learned a new party trick, waving. I only know how to wave at myself though watching my hand very closely so people laugh at me when I wave. But hey, I know when I'm going to leave. I don't know what all the other people in the room is going to do. Who decided you can't wave at yourself?

This weekend I have been babysitting my friend who is 1,5 years older than me. I still don't go to sleep until 10 PM so I'm a very good and reliable babysitter. I played with all the toys while she was sleeping.
Today I went to see the Nordic Karate Championship. It was great. I didn't need a ticket to get in. I watched the pyjamas people running around each other, kicking and making funny noises for 3 hours without getting bored. I tried to hit them with my carrot puree but I didn't manage to throw it far enough. It ended on the 3rd row. Next year maybe. If I practice really hard I might get them at the Icelandic Nationals next year. It would make really nice stains.

I'm getting mum and dad one of these sheets for Christmas. So that they can always know when someone is crossing into the other one's territory and exactly how much space they are taking up.

It's amazing how easy it is to amuse your parents.

April 8, 2008

Today I went to the park. Mum didn't bring me anything to eat so I tried my new shoes. Mum is on a diet. She wouldn't have any.

I’ve been growing my hair out long for 3 days now saving it for that punk hairdo. As you can see it's almost long enough on the sides. It just needs some color.

Why play with those stupid baby toys when you can dismantle the kitchen? These IKEA kitchens make the perfect gift for your baby. It's so much fun.

April 6, 2008

Parents nowadays are so lazy. They let you believe they are taking you for a walk but as soon as you forget to look after them for just a minute they leave you behind and go for a coffee.

April 4, 2008

It took dad hours to get ready for work today. This is the result. I also want a hairdo like this but he tells me my hair is too short. So unfair. There must be extensions for babies as well don't you think? I mean it can be quiet embarrassing having to wait for your hair to grow while all the other babies have hair already or getting those bald spots from sleeping too much on your back.

Days are getting longer now in Iceland. At home they have put black, plastic garbage bags in the windows to block out the morning light. My folks think it gets bright too early. I wake up at sunrise. During the winter I slept until noon but now I wake up at 6 AM. I've started to think they don't like my company. However I think the garbage bags are very stylish and chewable. You can buy them here.
As you can see I blog from the kitchen. When I'm not busy swinging the mouse around for fun.
